Raymond had pled guilty to two counts of third-degree sex abuse and one count of third-degree sodomy. Her sentence was fairly light:
Judge John Collins sentenced her Friday to four months in jail and five years on probation.
This is actually a really sad story in a lot of ways. Raymond pled guilty to avoid putting the boy through more humiliation, and she herself came from a terrible background:
Coukoules said Raymond had been physically abused by her heroin-addicted mother and sexually abused by both her grandfather and her mother’s heroin-addicted boyfriend. She said her client’s adult life had been scarred by alcoholism and depression as a result.
After 10 years of marriage, her husband threatened to seek a divorce and custody of their children if she didn’t stop drinking, Coukoules said. She said Raymond did quit in January 2005, but it wasn’t enough to save the marriage.
Hopefully she can get her life together after her four months in prison.
