This is pretty old news by now, but I’m still getting caught up.
Amy McElhenney is a 25 year old Spanish teacher at Lewisville ISD school near Dallas, Texas. She’s also a former Miss Texas contestant. McElhenney is charged with having an improper relationship with a student. An 18 year old student:
A first-year Hebron High School teacher and former Miss Texas contestant faces up to 20 years in jail after an 18-year-old student told police he had sex with the 25-year-old woman several times at her apartment in Austin Ranch.
Really, you have to wonder why the 18 year old felt the need to take this to police. How exactly could he feel like he was having a crime perpetrated against him when he was 18 years old. This isn’t a grey area like the Pamela Rogers or Debra Lafave cases. It seems obvious that McElhenney was doing something stupid – but certainly not something for which she deserved to go to prison.

An other female teacher was attempted to be railroaded by this same law in the SAME school district in 2005. No evidence case dropped. Amy denies any physical involvement with this adult male. He is treated as if he is 13,sheltered no identification no prosecution if he files false report. Why is she guilty until proven innocent because she is beautiful? Look at what it is indicated that he said. This is just a brag, no truth here. He is a liar.
They should leave the poor woman alone. No body is a victim here. The so-call victim in question is a grown man and capable of making his own choices. I wonder how the District attorney plans to make his compelling case.May be the next step will be to persecute professors who sleep with their students. Is it against the law? No. Is it immoral and unethical? Yes. Legality is not talisman for moral people. This is another way Conservatives spends tax payer’s money. And yet they complain of liberal big government.
Everyone who is defending this so called woman needs to stop. You all don’t know her. I wen’t to school with Amy and she has always been very much on the sexual side. Right after she graduated from high school, she got busted for sleeping with a married man that was also a teacher at our high school. Coincidece? I don’t think so. She had been sleeping with this teacher/coach since her senior year. She has major issues and she needs to be punished to the full extent of the law.
Actually, I am defending equal protection under the law (US Constitution), and the right to Life, Liberty and the Persuit of Happiness (Declaration of Independence) The law in Texas is against freedom of the adult in society. Just as wrong as if it had been based upon sexual preference or race! Les, you are one sick bastard.
Les, she must have turned you dowm. Tell me, since when is it against the law for an 18 year old to consent to sex? The only thing wrong is he is a student and she is a teacher. Hell, I’d have done her too. I still would!

No man of Any Honor would reveal anything about a relationship period. One such as this should receive major facial reconstruction.

Cameron Bara (the student) had another inappropriate relationship with the cheerleading coach at Hebron earlier in the year, but she didn’t get in trouble at all! Coach Mac was my spanish teacher for both semesters, and is definitely worthy of a great reputation. Cameron initiated both relationships and he’s not in any trouble at all-how is that just?

Honestly, Cameron was 18, and it seems consentual both ways, so there shouldn’t be a problem. That other law making it a felony offense to carry on a relationship between student and teacher in secondary schools regardless of age is ridiculous. I swear, I love texas, but this state has its priorities messed up. I knew Amy in back in college, and I feel bad that this whole thing panned out the way it did. If you’re still out there, Amy, some of us support you.
What is the crime here? Sex between an 18 year old student and a 25 year old beauty queen teacher. If the sex has been consensual then no crime has been committed because they are both adults! If the student was under-age then that’s different. I don’t know much about teacher’s ethics, however it is the school/and or teacher’s association who should decide disciplinary action and not the Courts. This case should be thrown out.
