Hey, it looks like the system does work every once in a while:

A Denton County grand jury on Thursday refused to indict a Hebron High School teacher who was arrested in May and charged with having improper relations with a student.

Amy McElhenney was charged with having a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old male student at Hebron. [...] When McElhenney, of The Colony, was arrested the story gained national media attention.

The police began investigating the case when an anonymous note was received by the school resource office. The note stated a student had viewed text messages on McElhenney’s cell phone that were “of an intimate nature and not indicative of a normal teacher/student relationship,�? police documents stated.

“McElhenney did admit that she felt her relationship with [the student] was inappropriate,�? the police documents state. “[The detective] asked McElhenney about the nature of her relationship with [the student] and McElhenney denied any physical or sexual relationships with [the student].�?

McElhenney was certainly guilty of bad judgement (whether the relationship went too far or not, she deemed it inappropriate), but the notion that two consenting legal adults could do anything against the law is ridiculous. Good job by the grand jury for having some common sense. I’m thinking the Denton County prosecutor has some explaining to do whenever he’s next up for election.

The location of the auction is Rice, Texas, so that checks out. And the user name is machotteacher, so I guess that checks out as well? The whole thing seems a little odd, but you never know. If it is her then I find it pretty damn funny that she’s referencing this site.

Amy McElhenney is a 25 year old Spanish teacher at Lewisville ISD school near Dallas, Texas. She’s also a former Miss Texas contestant. McElhenney is charged with having an improper relationship with a student. An 18 year old student:

A first-year Hebron High School teacher and former Miss Texas contestant faces up to 20 years in jail after an 18-year-old student told police he had sex with the 25-year-old woman several times at her apartment in Austin Ranch.

Really, you have to wonder why the 18 year old felt the need to take this to police. How exactly could he feel like he was having a crime perpetrated against him when he was 18 years old. This isn’t a grey area like the Pamela Rogers or Debra Lafave cases. It seems obvious that McElhenney was doing something stupid – but certainly not something for which she deserved to go to prison.
