Cuperus will be back in court on April 10th for arraignment:

Sioux County prosecutors say the alleged incidents took place last year, when the boy was 15- and 16-years-old.

Cuperus is charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, three counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee and three counts of lascivious conduct with a minor.

Her arraignment is set for April tenth.

Court papers show Cuperus allegedly had sex with a then 15-year old student of the Boyden-Hull Public School, where she works. O’Rourke says the incidents took place at Cuperus’s house and car. “It is alleged on one of the incidents in May 2005, the defendant picked up the student in her vehicle and drove that student to the home and that some sexual activity did take place there,” O’Rourke said.

Court documents also show Cuperus had sex with the student 15 to 20 times during the current school year.

By that time the student turned 16, the legal age of consent in Iowa, but officials say the alleged relationship still violated the law.

“School employees are in a special role with the students in the school,” O’Rourke said. “No matter the age of the employee or the student, there should not be sexual conduct between the two.”

Cuperus received an e-mail from Boyden-Hull, this week, asking her not to come in. Superintendent Steve Grond released a statement saying the school notified authorities, which lead to the investigation.

He also said Cuperus will remain on paid leave with the district until the issue is resolved… adding that the district may not know all the information in the case and will make no judgment on her guilt or innocent.
