Angela Stellwag

We first heard about Angela Stellwag in 2006, the former substitute teacher has finally pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault. Looks like the judge is considering sentencing her to 6 years in prison, but will wait for the final decision until after he receives the pre-sentence reports.  In addition to the prison sentence she will have to register as a sex offender, and will have restrictions on where she can live and work.

In exchange for her plea, three other counts of sexual assault and a count of endangering the welfare of a child will be dismissed, said Michael Luciano, a Burlington County assistant prosecutor.

Stellwag’s long-delayed trial on all the charges was scheduled to start today with jury selection. She had previously rejected the prosecutor’s plea offers. If convicted on all charges, she could have faced decades in prison.

In court Monday, Stellwag, through questioning from defense attorney John Sitzler, acknowledged that she met the 14-year-old while she was a substitute teacher at the Beverly City School in 2004. She admitted that during the last week in August 2004, after the boy had graduated from the school, she had sexual intercourse with him at her apartment.

Robin Lynn Winkis is a 30 year old former English teacher from York, Pennsylvania (Central York High School). She’s been convicted of sleeping with two of her students:

Winkis, who taught and coached at Central York High School for five years, apologized to the victims, their parents, fellow teachers and the community before she was sentenced Monday.

“What I did was wrong. I am sorry. I used poor judgment. I made horrible decisions,” she said.

York County Judge Stephen Linebaugh denied her request for probation, saying she “crossed a border that one may not cross.”

Winkis also was ordered to continue with counseling, perform 100 hours of community service, have no contact with the victims or victims’ families, and register as a sexual offender under Megan’s Law.

Defense attorney Terrance McGowan said his client has suffered from depression and had a physically abusive relationship with a former boyfriend. The friendships with students turned sexual because Winkis was alone and naive, he said.

Angela Stellwag is a 26 year old former substitute teacher from Beverly City and Riverside School District in Pennsylvania. She’s charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child:

Stellwag, whose father, Joseph, is the mayor of Delran, could not be reached for comment yesterday. Neither could her father.

Prosecutors allege that Stellwag, then 24, and the teen had sexual contact between July 4 and Sept. 30, 2004, at her home and in her car at various locations in Edgewater Park.

Officials would not say how the alleged relationship had come to the attention of police.

Stellwag met the teen in 2003 while teaching in Beverly City, which sends its students to the high school in Riverside. Riverside hired Stellwag in October 2004.

She has been free since February 2005, when she posted $20,000 bail after her arrest. She faces a maximum of 45 years in prison if convicted of all counts.

So yeah, she’s the mayor’s daughter.

Lana Jo Rinehart is a 26 year old physical education teacher from Terra Alta, Pennsylvania. She’s charged with sexual misconduct with a minor:

A former West Preston Middle School physical education teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old male student last September.

Lana Jo Rinehart, 26, of Terra Alta, was indicted Tuesday on charges of third-degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a custodian. Both are felonies.

The alleged crime was not on school property or during a school function, said Preston County Prosecuting Attorney Melvin C. Snyder III.

Good news for Brianna Said:

Yesterday, before Said’s preliminary hearing, attorneys agreed to drop the felony charge of interfering with the custody of a minor. In turn, Said waived her preliminary hearing on the remaining misdemeanor charge, one count of corruption of a minor. Said remains free on $25,000 unsecured bail.

It sounds like the kid has turned out real well from all this:

Said’s attorney, Terry McGowan, tried to subpoena the victim, now 18, to question him at the hearing.

Yesterday, McGowan said the youth recently moved from Philadelphia to New Jersey, and that two private investigators he hired could not find the youth to serve the subpoena.

He no longer attends Milton Hershey School, police Sgt. Eric Singheiser said in March. The school refused to say if he quit or was expelled.

New addition to the Hott for Teacher family, Sandra Elaine Rice is a 48 year old teacher at Phoenixville Area High School and the Center for Arts and Technology. That’s a real mouthful.

Anyway, Sandra has allegedly been getting up to some mischief, and is being charged with two counts of corruption of a minor:

PASD officials received word of the criminal investigation in August, and immediately restricted Rice to working from her home. Up to that point, she had been a one-on-one aide for special needs students at CAT-Pickering.

In September, after authorities executed a search warrant on Rice’s home, personal possessions and vehicles, Rice was suspended without pay and was banned from Phoenixville Area School District property.

The Superintendent goes on to say that Rice’s charge was probably unaware of her crime, which game me a big sigh of relief. I mean, it’s arguable how bad the crime of statutory rape with a 17 year old male really is, but if he was a special needs student then that would take things to a whole new level of wrongness.
