In July Ms. Abdo was fired from her position and last week was arragned on one-count of indecent exposure.  She pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor offense.  She was ordered by Judge Mark Braunlich to return to court Dec. 1 for a pretrial conference before Judge Terrance Bronson. The misdemeanor charge, punishable by up to one year in jail, was filed last week by the county prosecutor’s office.

“The offense involves an allegation that the teacher had sexual intercourse with an 18-year-old male student in a parked vehicle that was allegedly viewed by others,” Prosecutor William Nichols said.

A teacher can be prosecuted for criminal sexual conduct only if the student is underage.

“Michigan law provides that consensual sexual relations between a student and a teacher is a crime if the student is 17 years old or younger” this is according to William Nichols.

Good thing she found a student that was 18……

Julianna Sauls

Julianna Sauls, an Algebra teacher at Azle Christian Academy, has been arrested for allegedly stalking and attempting to sexually assault a student.  The unnerving part is that police say there may be other victims.

According to police affidavits, Sauls made a series of sexual advances toward a student at the school.  The police documents say that Sauls touched the 18-year-old student inappropriately several times while at school.  At one point, the victim claims, the teacher told him she wouldn’t let him leave class until he kissed her.

Police say Sauls and the student exchanged e-mails, text messages, and even went to Fort Worth where they received tribal tattoos together.

While the 18-year-old claims Sauls made sexual advances, he says their relationship was never sexual.

Information in police warrants says Sauls and the student agreed to meet in a parking lot near the Azle High School football stadium.  The boy claims he agreed to the meeting as long as the teacher promised that it wasn’t to do anything sexual.

At that meeting the student claims that Sauls began saying how sexually frustrated she was, then pulled down his shorts and tried to perform oral sex on him.

After the advances, the boy claims he attempted to jump into his car to leave and Sauls told him to trust her, because “the other boys do.”  That alleged statement is what leads police to believe there are other underage victims.

Police have seized cell phones and computer from Sauls home. Sauls has turned herself in to Tarrant County officials. She is charged with Sexual Assault and Improper Relationship Between Teacher and Student.  She is free on $50,000 bond.

Let’s just hope there aren’t any other vicitms.

A 27-year-old teacher at Sheridan High School has been arrested on accusations that she had a sexual relationship with an underage male student.

Melissa Snow is charged with sex assault on a child in a position of trust and sex assault on a child with a pattern of behavior, indicating she likely had an ongoing relationship with the student. Broadcast reports say the encounters did not take place on campus.

Court documents show Snow has no previous arrest record.
Sheridan High School officials are cooperating completely with Denver Police.

Snow was released Wednesday after posting $50,000 bond. She’ll be back in court on Nov. 19th.

Amazing how she has no previous arrests…Let’s hope that it was only this one student.

Carlie Lockwood, spokeswoman for Michigan Educational Personnel Services, which is the employer for the Warren charter school, said Tuesday that the teacher was given the choice to go on paid leave during the investigation, but she immediately quit instead. The name of the teacher was not released.

“We’ve had no contact with the employee – the former employee – since then,” Lockwood said. “We’re just waiting to hear what the outcome is.”

Lockwood said the student told school officials about the alleged relationship two weeks ago. School officials in turn contacted MEP Services, which then alerted police.

The alleged relationship began while the student and teacher were at Conner Creek Academy East in Roseville. That building closed and all of its students and teachers moved to Michigan Collegiate at the start of the new school year.
Generally, the age of consent in Michigan is 16, but state law stipulates that teachers can’t have sexual relationships with students under 18, even if the student is a willing participant.

Lockwood said that the student in this case said the sex was consensual.

The student said the sexual encounters occurred in Detroit, never on school grounds. Detroit police are investigating. Charges have not yet been filed.

“We’ve been working closely with the police since the day we found out,” Lockwood said. “We want to get to the bottom of this.”

Don’t most teachers have enough time to hit Happy Hours at the local bars?  Do they need to continue to harass their students?

Maggie Laughlin

Maggie Laughlin, the 23-year-old former Mentor math teacher sentenced in August to three years in prison for having oral sex with a ninth-grade student, is asking to be released early from prison.

A hearing has been scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Wednesday (November 5, 2008). Less than three months after Lake County Common Pleas Judge Paul Mitrovich sentenced her, he will decide whether she will be released.

Laughlin, of WIllowick, was a first-year teacher at Shore Junior High School in Mentor. She admitted to performing oral sex on the student the last eight days of school. She pleaded guilty to eight counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a juvenile. The maximum sentence would have been 18 months for each count.

Laughlin lost her teaching license and will have to register her address every six months for the next 25 years.

When Mitrovich sentenced her Aug. 27, he said, “As a teacher you were placed in a position of trust. You showed uncaring selfishness on your part.”

I certainly hope that this judge doesn’t even consider an early release for Maggie.  There’s absolutely no reason why she should she be eligible for an early-release.

Rebecca Daniels

Rebecca Daniels, 37, is the Drama and Speech teacher at Calumet High School (Affiliated with Perspectives Charer Schools Group).  She has been arrested charged with sexual assault and abuse for alleged sexual encounters with three students of the South Side charter school where she worked.

Prosecutors claim she had sex with two students and a former student. One of the boys was 15, and the other two were 16.

The sexual contact allegedly occurred over the summer and ended mid-October.

She was arrested and is being held on $100,000 bail.

Daniels taught in Ohio prior to her position at Calumet and has been an educator for 13 years.

Police suspect that the English teacher, who is in her 30s, took the student to guest rooms and to the beach, and also bought him presents.

The teacher came under suspicion due to “inside information” received from within the school. Following the revelations, other students are being asked to come forward with information on the case.

Police intend to ask the courts to keep the teacher in custody until further information is received.

FURIOUS parents have called for a saucy teacher to be sacked after she put on a saucy strip show for her 15-year-old pupils.

The German minx was supposed to be supervising a start of term party…

But things got out of hand as the pretty teacher put on her own s-extracarricular activities for the teen pupils.

She seductively stripped down to her underwear – to the joy of her howling students.

And she only stopped her X-rated High School musical when another teacher forced her to cover up.

But one goggle-eyed pupil filmed the show on his mobile phone.

The teacher is seen peeling off her top to reveal her bra and then starts to undo the zip of her trousers before another lecturer covers her in a tablecloth.

“It is disgusting. What kind of teacher acts that way in front of her pupils. She should be in a lap dancing bar, not a school,” said one angry parent.

“The children were playing truth or dare and making bigger and bigger dares for each other and she decided to join in.

“When they dared her to do some pole dancing she just started taking off her clothes. She’s a pretty woman in her 20s and the children couldn’t believe their luck.

“The worst thing is that teachers weren’t even supposed to be taking part in the party - they were supposed to be supervising it,” they added.

But the school’s headmaster in Zalaegerszeg, western Hungary, has refused to sack the unnamed mistress despite pressure from parents and other teachers.

“I was forced to give the German teacher a warning, but I will not dismiss her because she is a valuable teacher for our institution,” said head Sandor Rozman.

He claimed she had shown no more flesh “than you would see on a beach.”

I can only imagine the outrage of the parents and the backlash should be so strong that not only the teacher should be terminated the Headmaster’s judgement should be questioned as well.   Regardless of the teachers “What you would see on the beach” quote this isn’t the beach it is an instution of learning.

In Tampa, Florida,  Christina Butler will be sentenced in December after pleading guilty to having sex with a 16-year-old student. The teacher-student sex case occurred last year.

Butler, 34, pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and contributing to the delinquency/dependency of a minor.

The penalty for the charges carry more than 30 years in prison.

Butler was arrested in October 2007 and accused of having sex with a 16-year-old boy as many as a dozen times. Authorities have charged her with having sex with the boy just twice.

When another student came forward to report Butler, the student was ignored and later suffered a school suspension. School officials have since apologized for the suspension.

The case against Butler was made when the Tampa Police Department found two minors driving the teacher’s Jeep Cherokee and the passenger hinted to the officer that the driver (the 16-year-old) had a relationship with the teacher.

Jennifer Dorland

The former Cornwall-area junior high school teacher who sexually assaulted one of her 13-year-old male students was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail.

Jennifer Dorland, 42, who is now known as Jennifer Toews, was found guilty of sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching on Dec. 20, 2007.

The trial heard evidence that the former Grade 7 and 8 teacher had a sexual encounter with one of her former students, during which they kissed and fondled each other on a couch in Ms. Dorland’s basement in September 2004. In spite of her convictions, Ms. Dorland, who has no prior criminal record, has maintained her innocence

Justice Julie-Ann Parfett also sentenced Ms. Dorland to two years’ probation, the conditions of which require Ms. Dorland to register as a sex offender, have no communication with the victim or his family, not come within 500 metres of the victim’s home, place of work or school, not be alone with anyone under the age of 16 - with the exception of her own children - without another adult present and continue to attend counseling.

The father of the victim, whose name is subject to a publication ban, said he was satisfied with the sentence.

“Justice has been served. It’s been three years coming, but justice has been served,” he said, declining further comment.

Ms. Dorland’s defence had been seeking a conditional sentence, the majority of which could be served under house arrest, citing a psychological assessment that showed Ms. Dorland is not a pedophile, is not likely to reoffend and was “emotionally vulnerable” when the sexual encounter occurred as a result of her failing marriage. Crown prosecutors were asking for a jail sentence of at least 15 months.

In her sentencing decision, Justice Parfett said she accepted the assessment by Dr. Paul Fedoroff, but it did not justify a conditional sentence.

“While her psychological state may explain (her actions), it does not excuse it,” she said.

Justice Parfett said the fact that the charges against Ms. Dorland were based on a single incident and that she has “already paid a heavy price” in terms of loss of employment and reputation factored into her sentencing decision.

Justice Parfett said she agreed with the Crown that no exceptional circumstances existed to merit a conditional sentence and that the jail sentence reflects the severity of the breach of trust between student and teacher.

“She stepped over a line - a line drawn in concrete.”

When Justice Parfett delivered her sentence, Ms. Dorland, her hair shorter and greyer than when she last appeared in court, stood solemnly and quietly cried.

As Justice Parfett left the courtroom, Ms. Dorland was prevented from making physical contact with family by a bailiff, who took her into custody.

She did not make eye contact with the victim’s family.

Ms. Dorland’s lawyer refused to comment after the hearing.

The Ontario College of Teachers revoked Ms. Dorland’s teaching licence in May when a three-member disciplinary panel found that her actions “betrayed the trust of students, parents and the public.”

“She used her position of authority to take advantage of the student for her own sexual gratification,” read the panel’s decision.

Meanwhile, Ms. Dorland and the Upper Canada District School Board are named in a lawsuit filed by the student’s family in Ottawa court.
The lawsuit, which was filed in January, seeks $300,000 in general damages for the student and $50,000 each for his mother, father and brother.

The family claims the student has developed severe anxiety, depression, insomnia, post-traumatic stress disorder, loss of confidence and self-esteem and chronic problems with assertiveness and feelings of powerlessness.
