in By State, Kelly Abdo, Michigan

Kelly Abdo, a 27-year old Math teacher and 2nd year volleyball coach was originally placed on administrative leave from her district back in June 2008.  Officials were investigating improper behavior between the married math teacher and a 17 year old male student.

In July Ms. Abdo was fired from her position and last week was arragned on one-count of indecent exposure.  She pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor offense.  She was ordered by Judge Mark Braunlich to return to court Dec. 1 for a pretrial conference before Judge Terrance Bronson. The misdemeanor charge, punishable by up to one year in jail, was filed last week by the county prosecutor’s office.

“The offense involves an allegation that the teacher had sexual intercourse with an 18-year-old male student in a parked vehicle that was allegedly viewed by others,” Prosecutor William Nichols said.

A teacher can be prosecuted for criminal sexual conduct only if the student is underage.

“Michigan law provides that consensual sexual relations between a student and a teacher is a crime if the student is 17 years old or younger” this is according to William Nichols.

Good thing she found a student that was 18……
